Imagine if you will, a cabin in the woods, a little off the beaten path but still easily accessible if you know it's there. A place where, every year, family, friends and everyone in-between gathers for that one moment of the year to reconnect & catch up on everything that has been happening in each others lives. A day filled with warmth, good food, cheesy board games, and the stomping of little feet mixed in with cheery little giggles. In the midst of all the hilarity, you step outside for a moment to breathe in the cool fresh air, turn around to lean against the fence and observe the inhabitants of the cabin; laughing, interacting and seeing the simple happiness that comes from everyone being together.
In my perfect world, something like this scenario would happen every year. No one would be too busy or have prior commitments; no last minute cancellations or poor travel conditions. Everybody would be showing up and happy to be there. However, like most people, this is not the norm and sometimes it leaves you to wonder what makes you have to hustle more; the shopping or making it to the gift exchange. Yet, after all the rushing from here to there and all the planning, somehow things fall into place and those beautiful moments come together in some shape or form. Whatever form your moments take or however they come about, embrace them, let them sink in and nourish your spirit and remind you that there are people in the world who are better off because of you and the part you play in it. That extra five minutes you took to hold a door for someone, that may have seemed like nothing to you, could be what makes the other person's entire day because for whatever reason, they were really needing some kindness right then. The toll or the breakfast order that you offer to pay for the car behind you could lead that person to do the same, and then next and so on, until that one single act of selflessness has been multiplied and left countless people profoundly blessed; all because you took the time to embrace a moment. So grab hold of them, make them count, and never forget that you have an immeasurable ability to impact the world in all ways large and small.
